In this story:

Brock Purdy is in full swing as he enters Year 5 as the franchise quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers.

He's fired up and raring to go and has widely been considered one of the standout players at training camp so far. All the coaches have heaped praise on his work, which only adds to it.

But that's hardly surprising when he's already established himself as a top 8-12 quarterback in the league.

Klay Kubiak loves Brock Purdy's accountability

One of the best intangible qualities Purdy possesses is his relentless drive to get better as a quarterback. He's always looking for ways to improve his game, and that's hardly surprising given the competitive edge he's displayed throughout his career.

From afar, Purdy comes across as a confident and assured person, but he might not have the more outgoing personality of backup Mac Jones. That's not to say Purdy is boring, but rather that he appears more understated and constantly focused on becoming the best quarterback he can be on the field.

"I appreciate who Brock is as a leader and as a guy. He’s not a rah-rah guy in terms of, he’s not bringing a lot of vocal energy every day, but he quietly goes about his business, and he tries to hold people accountable," shared offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak to reporters.

"And yeah, Brock, he’ll snap, he’ll get on people. He’ll get on himself probably more than anyone. If you guys hear some things being said out there, it’s probably him talking to himself a lot of the time, too, which you love that – a guy who’s holding himself accountable.

"That’s who he is. It’s who he’s always been, you mentioned it. From the day he got here, he kind of had that personality and that edge to him and we love it. It’s what makes him a great competitor, so not taking that away from him. I love that he’s himself every day.”

He's only 26, and Purdy still has plenty to give in this game. It feels like his best years are likely still ahead of him, which makes everything he's already accomplished all the more impressive.

And perhaps that's what makes Purdy so intriguing. For everything he's already accomplished, taking the 49ers to the NFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl, there's still a hunger and desire to improve.

This year will be a big year for him.
