Which Bears Bubble Players Could Play Their Way Onto the Roster vs. the Bengals

In this story:
The Chicago Bears will take the fireld for their seconde preseason contest on Saturday night when they travel to Paycor Stadium to take on the Cincinnati Bengals.
These two teams squared off for a joint practice on Thursday and by all accounts it was a productive session for both teams ahead of their exhibition showdown in preseason Week 2.
With the vast majority of the Bears' starters expected to sit, this is yet another golden opportunity for players vying for roster spots to show they belong on the 53-man roster or, at the very least, Chicago's practice squad.
With that in mind, here's a look at five players on the bubble who could cement their spot on the initial 53-man roster with a strong showing in preseason Week 2.
The common trend between all five players is the fact that they were standouts in preseason Week 1, which is important to note because stacking good games in exhibition play is crucial.
WR Kaden Davis

Davis has routinely been a standout throughout training camp and he carried that momentum into preseason Week 1, when he led all Bears pass-catchers with four receptions for 88 yards, including a 41-yard reception that was the second-biggest gain of the game.
With likely only one spot up for grabs at wide receiver, if Davis can outperform both Maurice Alexander and Scotty Miller once again this week, he could cement his place on the 53-man roster early.
DL James Lynch

Lynch was one of the Bears' biggest standouts on defense in the preseason opener. He posted three pressures, including one QB hit, and finished with three tackles and one pass defensed and posted a solid Pro Football Focus run defense grade of 70.1.
Another thing helping Lynch's cause is the fact that he played in each spot upfront and we know how important versatility is for a backup. If he can have a repeat performance, Lynch might just garner enough attention to make the cut.
DE Jamree Kromah

Kromah stole the show in the first preseason game after notching six pressures, two sacks, three tackles for loss and a pair of QB hits versus Cleveland. He also received a shoutout from head coach Ben Johnson.
"In a game like this, you see the get-off, the relentlessness, and you feel his presence every snap. The D-linemen were hooting and hollering for him because they see him making plays. He's such a hard worker who's been in the program for a minute, so seeing him have success on the field is huge," Johnson said of Kromah.
Kromah is strictly an edge rusher, which will make it a bit harder for him to secure a roster spot. But if he can continue to show he's got the ability to add some pass-rush juice for a defense that no doubt needs more of it, Kromah might find his way onto the 53.
RB Salvon Ahmed

Like Davis, Ahmed has been standing out on a daily basis at the team's training camp, and also like Davis he managed to shine during the preseason Week 1 contest.
Ahmed ripped off the game's biggest play with a 49-yard scoring strike on a screen pass from Case Keenum, and he added two carries for 17 yards for good measure.
He did, however, operate behind Roschon Johnson, who appears to be the favorite for the RB3 job going into preseason Week 2.
That said, Ahmed could still grab the RB4 spot if the Bears decide to keep an extra, the chances of which have been increased in the wake of Kyle Monangai's knee injury, which leaves his Week 1 status up in the air.
We also wouldn't rule out Ahmed straight up beating out Johnson for a roster spot, although Johnson's special teams prowess gives him a leg up over Ahmed, who only has 110 career special teams snaps as compared to Johnson's 386.
LB Ruben Hyppolite

After a highly disappointing rookie season, Hyppolite was anything but guaranteed to secure a roster spot in 2026. But he helped his cause in a big way last week.
Hyppolite was the team leader in tackles with seven and he made a tackle for loss and notched a pass defensed. It was a strong showing for the 2025 fourth-round pick, who hasn't had many standout moments this offseason.
We know the Bears have three linebackers locked in with Devin Bush, T.J. Edwards and D'Marco Jackson. We would also pencil rookie Keyshaun Elliott in, but he has been injured throughout training camp and his Week 1 status is uncertain.
If Elliott can't get back healthy before Week 1, the Bears could have as many as two spots up for grabs on the 53 at linebacker, which only increases Hyppolite's chances of sticking. He can further assist in his cause with another strong showing on Saturday.
