ESPN Ranks Ja'Marr Chase Among Top Three NFL Wide Receivers

In this story:
CINCINNATI — ESPN's Jeremy Fowler wrapped up his player rankings assessment this week with wide receivers rounding things out. Bengals star Ja'Marr Chase cracked the top three in the survey of over 80 voters, including league executives, coaches, scouts, and players.
Only Justin Jefferson and Davante Adams ranked above Chase.
"He's the rare X receiver you can put on the outside, and he can win against anyone," an NFC exec said to ESPN. "Other receivers are more scheme-dependent than him."
The 2021 Offensive Rookie of the Year hit the ground running in his career and hasn't looked back. Chase is one of four receivers in NFL history with at least 2,500 yards and 20 touchdowns through their first two seasons, joining Odell Beckham Jr., Randy Moss, and Bill Groman.
The star did that while getting blanketed all throughout 2023, forcing the Bengals to find creative ways to get him the ball at different points on the field.
"He's not as polished as a route runner or technician as Jefferson, but the combination of size, speed, and playmaking ability is elite," a senior NFL personnel evaluator said. "He's trending up. His raw playmaking ability is rare. Run after catch, he's probably the best of these guys."
Tee Higgins didn't make the top-10, but he did get an honorable mention shoutout.
"True outside wideout with a big catch radius for vertical plays and back-shoulder slants," an NFL personnel director said about Higgins. "You can put the ball around him and he can adjust, take advantage of one-on-ones."
