Arizona Cardinals rookie quarterback Clayton Tune has never lacked confidence.

Let's go back to draft night, where Tune waited a little longer than he would have liked on Day 3 before finally receiving that coveted phone call to see his dreams come to fruition.

"I think I'm the best quarterback in this class and I feel like God's got a plan for me, so I wasn't too stressed about it," Tune told reporters in a conference call following his selection.

"I didn't have too many expectations but I'm just happy to go to such a great organization and be able to live out - I'm just happy to go in there and work and compete."

That was back in late April. Now, Tune has had the opportunity to participate in rookie camp and now OTA's ahead of mandatory minicamp, which begins on June 13.

The Cardinals like what they see.

"What I like about him is he's not scared. He is not scared. There's a couple throws that he made out there the last week or so and I'm like, 'Man, that's that's a tight fit right there.' And he was like, 'I know. I'll get it, I'll put it in there.' So I think his handle of the offense has impressed myself and I know the coaches because we've thrown a lot at him to operate the offense the way we want the quarterback position operated, and he's making some good reads," Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said.

"Making some good throws. He's got some things like everybody to get cleaned up but I like that he goes out there and he plays the position how should be played - with a lot of confidence and command. When he steps in that huddle he has pretty good command."

While Kyler Murray continues his rehab from ACL surgery, Tune will compete for the opportunity to play behind Colt McCoy and David Blough. McCoy and Blough are seasoned veterans with starting experience under their belt - but Tune previously at rookie camp said he's just trying to soak everything in.

"I'll try to do my job the best I can. I still have a lot to learn. Finding my role is my focus … and providing value for the team, whatever that looks like, doing the best I can do at that," he said.

Tune was a four-year starter and team captain for the Houston Cougars during his time in college. Last season, he threw for over 4,000 yards with 40 passing touchdowns on top of five rushing touchdowns.
