Four Teams Who Could Trade Up With Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals are open to moving down in the draft - here's who can move up.

ARIZONA -- We are just over two weeks away from the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft and the Arizona Cardinals have likely been working the phones for a hot minute regarding the fourth overall pick.

The 2024 class is a deep one, especially on the offensive side of the football, and the Cardinals are primed to add some blue-chip players to a young roster. Staying at pick number four makes plenty of sense when you consider elite talents like Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. or Notre Dame’s Joe Alt being possible targets. However, one option that would be difficult to turn down for Arizona would be the possibility of trading back.

This is a quarterback-heavy draft, and the Cardinals have no need for the position thanks to Pro Bowler Kyler Murray. The same cannot be said about several other teams who should be reaching out to Arizona regarding a trade up to secure the rights to one of the draft’s many signal callers.

We won’t see any monumental move ups (more than likely), but there are four teams who make the most sense to move up with the Cards for a variety of reasons.

Today, we take a look at those four teams, why they should move up, and possible trade packages for doing so.

New York Giants: Sixth Overall Pick

The Giants are experiencing one of the worst cases of buyer’s remorse we’ve seen in a long time after shelling out a four-year contract worth $40 million per year. It was a bad decision when they made the signing and it’s only gotten worse with a year’s worth of hindsight.

New York can quickly move on from Jones by drafting his replacement, but they’ll need to get from six to four if they want to do as much.

Compared to the other three teams on this list, the cost is much more reasonable for New York considering it’s only a move between two spaces.

The Cardinals would gladly move down two spots to guarantee themselves an elite player while also securing a little more draft capital.

Potential trade package: Sixth overall pick and 70th overall pick

Denver Broncos: 12th overall pick

The Broncos current quarterback depth chart is Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci. That absolutely cannot be the case by the end of the 2024 NFL Draft and quite frankly they need to address it on day one if they’re serious about competing.

Denver is in a weird situation to where the roster isn’t littered with Pro Bowlers, but there’s plenty of players who do their jobs very well. It stands to reason that if they added a competent quarterback that they could vie for a wildcard spot.

As will be the case for the next two teams, the cost won’t come cheap for the Broncos, who would have to convince the Cardinals to move out of the top-10. Still, the price of a potential franchise quarterback always speaks loudest.

The Cards would be able to use Denver’s need for a signal caller coupled with the move up price to get a potential fortune for the pick.

Potential trade package: 12th overall pick, 121st overall pick, and a 2025 first round pick

Las Vegas Raiders: 13th Overall Pick

You can copy/paste what I said about the Broncos here for the Raiders. While Las Vegas did sign Gardner Minshew in the offseason, he’s nothing more than a bridge quarterback and the guys behind him, Aidan O’Connell and Anthony Brown, are not franchise guys.

But like Denver, the Raiders are a team that consistently overachieves, and it places them into a situation like this where they will be forced to trade significant capital to go up and get a franchise quarterback.

Like I said, copy/paste what I said about the Broncos:

“…the cost won’t come cheap for the RAIDERS, who would have to convince the Cardinals to move out of the top-10. Still, the price of a potential franchise quarterback always speaks loudest.

"The Cards would be able to use LAS VEGAS’S need for a signal caller coupled with the move up price to get a potential fortune for the pick.”

Potential trade package: 13th overall pick, 44th overall pick, and a 2025 second-round pick

Minnesota Vikings: 11th and 23rd Overall Picks

No team makes more sense to move up in the 2024 NFL Draft for a quarterback than the Minnesota Vikings. They lost Kirk Cousins in the offseason and need a young, cheap, and exciting quarterback of the future.

It’s also blatantly obvious that they are gearing up for a move after acquiring the Texans first-round pick. To put it one way, Minnesota is all-in on a move up.

Right now, the Cardinals have all the leverage and Arizona has to be salivating at the chance to get two first-round picks this year and more on top of that. It’s a price that not only will the Vikings be willing to do, but they’re equipped to do it better than anyone else.

It’s an obvious marriage that, at this point, would be a surprise if it didn’t happen.

Potential trade package: 11th overall pick, 23rd overall pick, and 129th overall pick
