Cardinals Announce Josh Dobbs Will Start in Week 2

The Arizona Cardinals will be starting quarterback Josh Dobbs in Week 2 against the New York Giants, according to head coach Jonathan Gannon.
"I'm excited about seeing what he does this week," said Gannon at his Monday press conference.
Dobbs was acquired at the end of the preseason from the Cleveland Browns for a fifth-round pick. Arizona subsequently cut Colt McCoy and placed Dobbs ahead of rookie Clayton Tune on the depth chart.
Last week, the Cardinals wouldn't officially name a starter in the name of "competitive advantage". They lost 20-16 to the Washington Commanders on Sunday.
Dobbs himself went 21-30 for 132 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions, though he did have two fumbles - one of which came under center and led to a Washington score.
Dobbs' 4.4 yards per attempt was shockingly low and ultimately told the story of how Arizona's day went offensively. DE Cameron Thomas picked up a loose ball and scored on defense for their only touchdown on the day.
There's hope Dobbs can settle into his role as a starter more comfortably with a game now under his belt.
Dobbs says himself and the entire offense will rebound next week.
"I think a huge jump is in store. Just getting out there, getting the flow of the game right. Getting the flow with the guys - timing, rhythm and the game's always different than practice sometimes," Dobbs said.
"We can definitely make a huge jump, and I expect to make a huge jump especially situationally. So I know all of us do. We'll go back, we'll watch the film. It's the first game. We'll look at the things we did well, look at things we can improve and we'll hone in on those things that we can do better and keep improving on what we do well."
