Chargers Beef Up Offensive Line in Latest CBS Sports Mock Draft

If the Chargers want to establish their toughness and physicality, this is the move for them.

The Los Angeles Chargers have many ways to go in the upcoming draft. The Bolts hold the number five pick, a pick where the front office can find themselves a future superstar in many positions.

The page has officially turned for many of these teams to the 2024 season, including for your Bolts. This offseason will be an intriguing one, and it all starts with the draft. From now till April 25th, we'll all be wondering, "What will the Chargers do with their fifth pick?"

CSB Sports Tom Fornelli believes the Bolts will pick up the best offensive tackle in the draft, Notre Dame OT Joe Alt

"Joe Alt OT NOTRE DAME • JR • 6'7" / 322 LBS

Jim Harbaugh wants tough, physical football teams, and that starts along the line of scrimmage. Brock Bowers or another receiver could be in play here, but I expect the first pick of the Harbaugh era to be on the offensive line. Alt isn't as polished as Fashanu, but he's huge, strong, and has great feet. The Chargers have their franchise QB, and Alt could be the franchise LT who protects his blind side."

Per Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports

Fornelli is right; if head coach Jim Harbaugh wants to establish his identity in this team on day one, Alt is the way to go. Everywhere Harbaugh has gone, the offensive line and the run game have been the constant.

Alt has the hype and game to back up his draft position. He is the perfect blindside protection with his towering and long frame; his wingspan and snap quickness help displace rushers and maintain leverage, and his ability to pick up stunts and blitzes is second to none.

The only problem is the Chargers have an elite left tackle on their side, Rashawn Slater. Slater is already an established pro, but you could never have enough big bodies to help protect Herbert and establish the run game.

If the Bolts' front office feels like Alt is the guy, then the coaching staff will figure out the rest.
