Chargers News: Bolts Could Change Their Power Dynamic With New GM and HC

In this story:
The Los Angeles Chargers have a huge, and I mean huge, off-season ahead of them. The Bolts need a new head coach and general manager; the search will be thorough.
The Chargers cannot miss with this one. It's been too long since LA has been competitive, and you cannot waste any more time, especially with Justin Herbert under center. The time is now for the Bolts, and for real change, they will need to mix things up. According to President of Football Operations John Spanos, they will be looking for a different type of dynamic in their search for a new general manager and head coach.
President of football operations John Spanos said earlier this month that ownership will be reevaluating this power structure. That does not necessarily mean the Chargers will be moving away from a GM-driven model. At the same time, Spanos mentioned the “possibility” of executing a “parallel path” with the GM and head coach searches. I do not think the Chargers are married to filling one position before the other. The expectation is that the Chargers will be conducting the two processes concurrently. Whichever hire happens first will likely be based on the individual candidates. If there is a head coach the Chargers really like, there should be nothing precluding the organization from making that hire first. And vice-versa with a general manager candidate.

The way things were before was former general manager Tom Telesco was the man behind the wheel, and deservedly so, due to his background with the Indianapolis Colts.
So, it was ownership, the general manager, and then the head coach. John wants that to change with the right people, of course. The search will be one all Charger fans will closely have their eye on, and there are many great candidates for both the GM and head coach.
Whatever approach the Chargers decide to take, one thing is clear: LA cannot mess this one up. The Bolts have a golden opportunity to truly turn things around and stop "Chargering" it up all the time. It won't happen all at once, but things will eventually turn around with the right people. This is the most significant off-season to date, and that is not hyperbole.
No pressure, though, Spanos family.
