Chargers News: Corey Linsley Restructures Contract Despite Plans to Retire

Center Corey Linsley is still looking out for his team.

The Los Angeles Chargers could find themselves in a bit of a tricky situation next season, as the team has one of the worst cap space issues. They are ranked #29 out of 32 teams with a projected cap of -$44 million, according to spotrac.

The team will have to make some tough decisions on which veterans they plan to keep, while some will be cap room casualties. One player the team won't have to worry about is center Corey Linsley.

Linsley was held out of much of the 2023 season based on a medical issue that is likely to see the veteran retire. Even though he has plans to retire, Linsley has agreed to restructure his contract.

Linsley's selfless move will see the Chargers create $10.29 million in cap space, and see his dead cap hit be spread out over two years. We imagine that the team plans to take care of Linsley, who told reporters he was "99% sure he was retiring."

Even if the Chargers designate his retirement after June 1, the cap hit won't be as severe. It sounds like Linsley is still doing what he can to help the team.

The hope is his heart issue can be addressed and he will make a full recovery on that front. Linsley is a good player and cares about the team enough to want to work on his contract to help make some cap space.
