Chargers News: Bill Simmons Demotes Justin Herbert From Top QBs List After Ravens Loss

In this story:

Your Los Angeles Chargers are deep in the dumps, folks. Another close game resulted in another loss to their disappointing and underwhelming 2023 season; this time, they fell victim to the Baltimore Ravens, 20-10, on a Sunday night prime time broadcast.

The Bolts stuck around and made it competitive against the AFC-leading Ravens; however, their inability to move the ball when it counted most bit them in the but, as the offense and star quarterback Justin Herbert failed to score when it mattered most.

It allowed people, including sports personalities and podcaster Bill Simmons, to bury Herbert's name. In his latest episode, Simmons and betting man "Cousin" Sal Iacono went as far as to take Herbert off their top QB list.

"I think he's a talented quarterback, but I've never seen more of a schism between the nerds telling us how great he is when you watch the all 22 then when I'm just watching a game or betting against him, 'Oh, I'm not that nervous, he's not going to come though,'" Simmons said.

"Nerds be damed, I'm ready to move him out my top six," Iacono said.

"I think I am, too," Simmons concurred.

(Per The Bill Simmons Podcast)

Herbert has been spectacular this season, and if you want to discredit him after one game against a great defense, then so be it. The 25-year-old hasn't had the best of seasons, but his defense, outside of Sunday night, has let him down numerous times.

The game against the Lions comes to mind. The Bolts scored every time in the second half, but the defense could not stop or contain thDetroit.

I see this as another overreaction Monday quote. Herbert is as talented as any quarterback this league has seen; he cannot do it all on his own, and when you have only one reliable weapon, it makes it tough for him to perform at a high level, week in and week out.
