Chargers News: Bolts Finish Interview With Chicago Bears Assistant GM

In this story:
The Los Angeles Chargers are currently in search of the individuals who will lead to the team to greater heights in 2024. After a disappointing season, the Spanos family announced that both HC Brandon Staley and GM Tom Telesco were relieved of their duties.
The Chargers job is quite coveted, and it has unearthed plenty of reports that Jim Harbaugh would be angling to return to the NFL and has a strong opinion of taking the HC job. Landing someone as successful as Harbaugh would be huge for the organization.
The Bolts will also need to find a good GM to be coupled with the potential of bringing on Harbaugh. One such fit is Chicago Bears assistant GM Ian Cunningham.

Cunningham would be a huge get for the Chargers as well, and it is a bit odd that he was not hired following his interview. The Spanos did indicate they would be casting a "wide net" in search of their new team leaders.
Cunningham is part of a winning culture that would benefit the Chargers organization. He just finished his second season as the assistant GM for the Bears, but before that, he was part of the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens.
Both those organizations are two of the most successful and deep in terms of personnel. Cunningham had his hand in building the Super Bowl-winning rosters for both teams.
During the Ravens' 2012 Super Bowl season, Cunningham was the area scout for the team. Conversely, with the 2017 Eagles Super Bowl winning season, he was the director of college scouting.
Cunningham knows how to spot talent at all levels, and that is what the Chargers need in their next GM. They have dealt with injuries and a thin roster in 2023 that needs to be addressed in the coming draft and free agency.
Time will tell to see what the Chargers do, but big moves could be happening today.
