Chargers News: Bolts Will Need to Win Out to See Postseason

In this story:
It's the month of December, Charger fans, which means it is crunch time. This is the month that separates the pretenders from the contenders, and your Bolts will look to do just that.
With five games remaining, the Chargers sit at 5-7, and even though their record is not in their favor, they control their current playoff destiny. It won't be easy, but the Chargers have the talent to do it.
However, what exactly needs to happen for this team to clinch the postseason? A lot is the vague answer, but Chargers insider for the LA Times Jeff Miller broke it down and says the safest bet is going unbeaten the rest of the way.
“With so much traffic blocking their way, finishing 10-7 is the Chargers’ surest path to the postseason, meaning they must win out, the most unlikely of conclusions to a season no one saw unfolding quite like this. The New York Times’ playoff simulator has the Chargers’ chances of advancing at 7%. If they finish without another defeat — that would be a six-game winning streak for a team that to date hasn’t won more than two in a row — that number goes up to 96%.”

An undefeated record for the rest of the season is a tall order. The 2022 Chargers, however, were able to finish the regular season on a four-game winning streak to clinch the fifth spot in the AFC.
The Bolts are more than capable of doing the same in 2023. The team has only been able to muster a two-game win streak thus far, but wider things have happened with the Bolts. Nothing is out of the ordinary for this team; they have the quarterback, the weapons, and a red-hot Khalil Mack leading the way on defense.
Time is not on their side, but if they can play team football and take it one game at a time, they could very well go unbeaten to clinch a playoff spot. We'll see if they can do the impossible, and it all starts against their division rivals, the Denver Broncos. "Odds, shmodds."
