The Chargers have some interesting draft capital to work with.

In this story:

The Los Angeles Chargers are presumably going to be a much different team when the 2024 season starts. That's not only because of the free agents and draftees they will bring on during the offseason, but the team will have a new head coach and GM.

Both Brandon Staley and Tom Telesco were relieved of their duties, much to the joy of Bolts fans around the world. With the season winding down, the Chargers will likely have to wait to interview candidates who are entering the playoffs. Still, there are many choices to rifle through.

Even more interesting is who the team plans to allow to serve as the GM. Jojo Wooden is currently interim GM, and we imagine he will get his chance to interview when the time comes.

That said, the GM will need to work some magic with the draft capital the Chargers have. With their pick currently, the team should be able to get an impact player.

They currently own seven picks in the draft, and their first-round pick is currently valued at #5. There are a host of players that the Chargers can choose from, but Bleacher Report broke down who those impact players could be at #5:

  • Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Ohio State (No. 1 overall)
  • Brock Bowers, TE, Georgia (No. 2)
  • Olumuyiwa Fashanu, OT, Penn State (No. 5)
  • Joe Alt, OT, Notre Dame (No. 6)
  • Keon Coleman, WR, Florida State (No. 7)
  • Jared Verse, Edge, Florida State (No. 8)
  • Rome Odunze, WR, Washington (No. 9)
  • Laiatu Latu, Edge, UCLA (No. 10)

The most amazing situation would be that Marvin Harrison Jr. would fall to the Chargers at #5, assuming that is where they stay with three games left in the season. We highly doubt that Harrison will be there at #5, but the Bolts could certainly use their draft capital and trickery to secure a much-needed WR.

Brock Bowers would also be a solid pick, as the Chargers TE room has either underperformed or just dealt with too many injuries.

Both Keon Coleman and Rome Odunze would be solid choices too, considering the WR is much like the TE room. Rookie Quentin Johnston has failed to meet expectations and Keenan Allen is getting up there in age.

The Chargers need a boost at the WR position, so Justin Herbert can return to his gunslinging ways.

Having seven picks does benefit the team greatly and the new GM will need to knock this draft out of the park. This team needs a big overhaul and hitting home runs on most of those seven picks will set this team up for a much brighter future.
