Chargers Overlooked as Super Bowl Contenders in Top-10 Ranking

Doubts are still on the horizon for the Bolts

The 2023 season is upon us, Charger fans. Veterans will report to training camp tomorrow, and the first preseason game is a little over two weeks away. It's an exciting time for football fans everywhere, and I know Charger fans cannot wait to see how their squad looks in this new season. 

The Chargers will look to right their many wrongs from seasons past, but especially last season, as it ended in the worst way possible. That left a bad taste in many people's mouths as it added to the Bolts' stigma as a team who cannot get over the hump. It may be unfair to this group of Chargers, but that's the sad reality. 

Still, LA was ranked 10 in Bleacher Reports NFL rankings entering training camp. Although they are high in the rankings, doubt remains about whether they can be considered Super Bowl contenders. 

But regardless, Davenport is out on the Chargers as a Super Bowl contender.

"Two years ago," he said, "the Chargers needed a Week 18 win over the Raiders to make the postseason after losing two of three heading into that contest. The Bolts blew it. Last year, the Chargers were up 27-0 and won the turnover battle 5-0—and the Bolts blew it. Until this team shows it can win a big game in January, I can't count them among the league's elite."

I get it, some need to see it in order to believe it, and as of late, we have not seen it with the Chargers. 

Nonetheless, the Chargers have all the tools to regard as Super Bowl contenders; however, it won't be easy in a loaded AFC. Still, LA has the quarterback, offensive weapons, defensive personnel, and coaching to compete against the top teams in the NFL. 

There is some bias in Davenport's statement as he is concerned with past proceedings instead of the information in front of him. 

LA will plan to come out in 2023 to prove the doubters wrong, and we will all be there to witness it.
