Chargers Report Score Predictions: Will Bolts Take Down the Bears?

In this story:
Your Los Angeles Chargers are facing an uphill battle, as the team has fallen to 2-4 and a win on Sunday Night Football could spell doom for the formerly favored playoff team.
The good news is the Bolts are facing an ailing Chicago Bears team that is still trying to figure itself out as well.
Will the Chargers pick up a much-needed win? Here are the Chargers Report staff picks for this crucial SNF showdown.
.The Bears will be able to cover the -8.5 spread that it’s currently at in this Sunday Night primetime matchup. The Chargers will get it done; heck, they have to get it done to keep their playoff hopes alive. A potentially 2-5 record would likely put their playoff hopes to bed, especially with how the rest of the AFC looks. Chicago’s run defense is surprisingly great, only allowing 82.3 rushes to their opponent, ranking fifth in the league. However, their pass defense is among the bottom four in the league at 29, allowing 257.1 yards per game. Now, the Chargers are no better ranking last in that department, but LA is the more talented team, and they should be able to exploit that and come out with a win.
Chargers 23 - Bears 17.

I have the Chargers winning big over a lowly Bears squad on SNF. Justin Herbert will feast off that porous Bears defense while the Chargers will use their one week of film to slow down rookie QB Tyson Bagent. Give me Chargers by 10, 27-17.

The Chargers are
8.5-point favorites
over Chicago, per The Action Network's aggregations. Although they're struggling with injuries to their second-best wide receiver and their starting tight end, Los Angeles is playing a terrible Bears team missing its most important piece in starting quarterback Justin Fields. I am dubious LA will cover that spread, as the club's offense has looked shakier under Brandon Staley this season than it reasonably should. That said, the Bolts' season hangs in the balance, and the Bears are circling the top of the 2024 NFL draft. Should the Chargers actually lose this (which feels conceivable under emergent folk hero backup QB Tyson Bagent), their season would effectively be over. They'll do enough to win, at least.
Chargers 17 - Bears 14

The Chargers must pick up a win here, or they will see their playoff hopes dashed against the proverbial rocks. The secondary is beginning to get a bit healthy, as it appears Alohi Gilman will suit up. Potential breakout star Gerald Everett did practice in full yesterday as well, making him a potential offensive weapon for Herbert to throw to. Though Joshua Palmer is still a game-time decision, the Bolts have enough to take down a truly lesser team. The team is hungry for this win, and they will show up under the primetime lights.
Chargers 24 - Bears 17

Backup Tyson Bagent won't have the same luck he did against Brian Hoyer. Justin Herbert with another week removed from his finger injury should get the job done. Prediction: 28-17 Chargers

Chargers 23-16. The Bolts seem to never be able to comfortably win games, always keeping it within one score. The Bears defense has also had some surprisingly good showings the past few weeks, holding the Raiders and Vikings to fewer points than the Chargers did (albeit, the latter without Justin Jefferson). With limited film out on Chicago QB Tyson Bagent, and a fairly solid rushing attack, I could see the Bears keeping this close

I'm thinking the Chargers will beat the Bears 28-10. The Chargers will use the absence of Jaquan Brisker to air the ball out and test the backup safety. Herbert will have a bounce back game throwing 350+ and a trio of touchdowns.
