In this story:

Despite a 2-2 start to the 2023 NFL season, one writer for the Jeff Miller of The Los Angeles Times believes your Los Angeles Chargers are not all that they appear.

Miller claims that the Bolts' 2-2 record paints a misleadingly sunny portrait of the team's success, in that the Chargers' losses come against teams that are 5-3 on the season, while the wins are against teams that are a combined 2-6. Miller also goes on to describe the chaotic nature of a team that ranks among the top 10 in total offensive yards and touchdowns accrued but 31st in defensive yards allowed.

All of this stems from a club that boasts some of the top talent in the league, with Pro Bowl caliber stars including Justin Herbert, Keenan Allen, Khalil Mack, and Joey Bosa, to name a few.

It's still early in the season, but opinions are being formed about each team and their performances thus far - and the Bolts' record against teams with winning and losing records is not promising. However, fans can still find reason for optimism. Each of LA's four games has been decided by 7 points or less. So, no matter the opposing team's record, the Chargers have been in every game thus far.

The schedule does not get any easier coming out of the bye week. The Chargers will face a formidable defense in the 3-1 Dallas Cowboys on Monday night before facing the 3-1 AFC West leader Kansas City Chiefs. After that, however, comes a long streak of very winnable games for Los Angeles.

What does this all mean? Ultimately, it is too early to tell. The Chargers have the talent on their roster to hang with other high-powered teams in the league, but they are also susceptible to playing down to their competition. None of this is new for LA fans, as year in and year out, the team seems to find new and creative ways to make every game more interesting than it needs to be. Hopefully, the team can learn from its early struggles and play up to the level expected.
