By now, practically all 32 NFL teams should have a solidified draft strategy come Thursday. For the Kansas City Chiefs, this means getting an offensive lineman early.

Many top prospects have been linked to the Chiefs consistently, such as Minnesota's Aireontae Ersery and Oregon's Josh Conerly Jr. However, one player seems to populate the majority of Chiefs' first-round mocks: Ohio State OT Josh Simmons. "Sports Illustrated" draft analyst Albert Breer recently gave his thoughts on Simmons and his potential fit within Kansas City.

"What you need to know: Most folks expect the Chiefs to go in on fixing their offensive line, with a couple of the four picks they have inside the top 100. They’d be well-positioned to take a risk on Simmons, who likely won’t be cleared to practice until after camp starts, and has maturity questions, but would benefit in a big way from going to a program like Kansas City’s. A lot of scouts and coaches believe he’s got the best potential to become a top-shelf left tackle of any player in the draft, though that would be the second year in a row they Chiefs take such a chance on the offensive line, after picking Kingsley Suamataia in the second round last year."

It's crucial that the Chiefs finally fill this hole within their offensive front. They've experimented with multiple options at left tackle, but none have provided the long-term stability that they were searching for. Putting veteran guard Joe Thuney out wide was an out-of-the-box idea, but he ultimately left in free agency.

With four picks inside the Top 100, the Chiefs have multiple chances to get it right. Not to forget, their first free agent signing was San Francisco 49ers tackle Jaylon Moore, who could turn out to be exactly who they needed. That being said, it's never a bad idea to have a backup plan.

Aside from the glaring need at offensive line, it would be wise for the Chiefs to continue bolstering their defensive line as well as the defensive back room. Given that both DT Tershawn Wharton and S Justin Reid left for new threads this offseason, it won't be easy to replace them.
