The Kansas City Chiefs are taking a good look at the running back position as they head into the 2025 NFL Draft. He knows that last season was a rough year for their backfield. Not only with injuries, but also with not being able to run the ball because of their offensive line. The Chiefs will have many options at running back as the draft is next week.

On Wednesday they hosted a surprising running back prospect.

"Central Arkansas running back ShunDerrickPowell (3,500 career rushing yards, 40 touchdowns, 4.40 speed) visiting Chiefs today, per a source at KPRC 2 Houston," said NFL reporter Aaron Wilson.

This is big news for the Chiefs as they move forward and just before the draft. General manager Brett Veach is making a priority that the team gets back its run game next season. What makes it more surprising is that they are targeting a prospect that no one is talking about.

But this will not be the first time that Veach finds a talented running back that no one his talking about. Back in the 2022 NFL Draft, Veach selected starting running back Isiah Pacheco in the seventh round.

The Chiefs can find their next draft steal with Powell. He did have a great college career and did have a good showing with his 40-yard dash. Coming to the Chiefs would help him because he would share the load with Pacheco and veteran Kareem Hunt.

"Explosive back with run-and-catch potential but size that could knock him off some draft boards. Powell is twitched-up with the ability to hurt defenses with his elusiveness. However, he lacks efficiency as a decision-maker and is too easy to bring down with the ball in his hands. He will need to prove himself as a top-flight pass-catching option with gadget-run potential, but he’s a longshot to make a roster regardless," said NFL analyst Lance Zierlein.

This would be a great pick up by the Chiefs, it gives them a different look coming out of the backfield, and Powell is also dangerous in the passing game coming out of the backfield. The Chiefs will have a chance to draft Powell, and he will be a good fit in Kansas City.
