Cowboys Urged to Sign DeAndre Hopkins in Head-Scratching Proposal

Signing DeAndre Hopkins wouldn’t be an ideal move for the Dallas Cowboys.

Defense has been the theme for the Dallas Cowboys this entire offseason.

After a disastrous season on that side of the ball, the Cowboys realized they needed a complete overhaul. That led to Matt Eberflus being fired, and they hired Christian Parker to take over as defensive coordinator.

Parker has plenty of talent to work with now that Dallas picked up several new starters in free agency, then used five of their seven draft picks on defenders as well.

Clearly, the Cowboys are comfortable with their offense, as they should be. All 11 starters are set to return, but CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani still thinks they could be a landing spot for veteran wide out DeAndre Hopkins.

Would DeAndre Hopkins make sense in Dallas?

Dajani concedes that Dallas has CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, which is an elite combo. However, he’s still concerned about Pickens playing on the tag, thinking Hopkins could provide insurance.

”Dallas has CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens out wide for Dak Prescott, but now that Pickens has signed his franchise tag, could he end up being traded? Is he really going to accept playing on this one-year deal?” Dajani wrote.

This idea is puzzling for a couple of reasons. First, all signs have recently pointed to Pickens playing on the tag. This will allow him to earn $27.3 million and if he puts up another fantastic season, his asking price would go through the roof.

There was a time where Pickens’ camp was reportedly testing the waters for a potential move, but the market wasn’t there. That’s why his best strategy is to bet on himself and earn a massive deal in 2027.

Cowboys already have insurance behind Lamb, Pickens

The main reason Hopkins to Dallas doesn’t make sense, however, is the presence of Ryan Flournoy. The third-year wideout is coming off a breakout campaign, which saw him record 40 receptions for 475 yards with four touchdowns.

Flournoy proved capable of playing the WR2 role during the season, filling in admirably for Lamb when he suffered a high ankle sprain. His performance hasn’t been given the attention it deserves, which is why we recently discussed him as the Cowboys’ most underrated player.

Hopkins, who was once among the best in the game, had far less of an impact for his team in 2025. Hopkins played in 17 games for the Baltimore Ravens and had just 22 receptions for 330 yards with two touchdowns. He will also turn 34 before the season begins, which puts his future production in question as well.

That’s why Dallas is much better sticking with Flournoy rather than going after someone such as Hopkins.
