Bill Belichick Hiring 'Interest' from Eagles: 'Rumor' or 'Report' in Firing of Nick Sirianni?

Bill Belichick Hiring 'Interest' from Philadelphia Eagles: 'Rumor' or 'Report' in Firing of Nick Sirianni?

Just hours before kickoff on Monday in Tampa, the respected NFL beat guy Jay Glazer dismissed the idea of Philadelphia Eagles coach Nick Sirianni being dismissed.

"I think it's good. I don't think he goes anywhere," Glazer said. "I'm not hearing that he's out."

Hours later? Maybe we all need to re-think this - and we believe that inside Eagles headquarters, the idea of hiring Bill Belichick - which we will say frankly might very well have been a very private and even secret option before - could very well be more of an "open secret'' now.

Belichick has already formally interviewed with the Falcons. And as the "Bill to the Cowboys" train picks up steam in the wake of the Dallas Cowboys' upset loss to Green Bay, our plugged-in colleagues in Foxboro at PatriotsCountry.com at SI are carefully using the word "interested'' when it comes to a Belichick/Eagles tie.

After their embarrassing defeat in Tampa Bay that punctuated a collapse from a 10-1 start, could Philly really fire in Sirianni the coach who led the club to a Super Bowl just a year ago?

Could Philly really be thinking about replacing him with the future Hall of Famer? To reiterate: We don't think that "thinking'' is just happening anew in recent hours.

And long-time Ed Kracz of EaglesToday.com at SI, who was with the team in Tampa, is updating us about the likely pros and cons following the collapse.

ProFootballTalk is connecting Belichick to the Eagles, but PFT has connected Belichick to an assortment of jobs ... creating the impression that Belichick (through his cronies) is puppeteering some in the media to get his name "hot.''

Why is that necessary for a six-time Super Bowl winner? Only because in 2023 he was in charge of arguably football's worst team - and a team that hasn't been truly good in almost half-a-decade.

Would the Eagles give Belichick full control of the team, as he is accustomed to having? Is it about money? Is it about a ring?
