Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen spoke with reporters on Tuesday in an interview that opened the door to new tidbits and plans for the franchise in the weeks and months to come.

The second-year head coach is coming off his rookie year, where he helped lead the Jaguars to a 13-4 record and the AFC South crown, establishing a culture that could be a mainstay in Jacksonville for years to come, just in time for the team's "Stadium of the Future," set to be completed by 2028.

It has been a quiet offseason for the Jaguars and Coen, who, paired with general manager James Gladstone, have been able to retain depth that features Quintin Morris and Dennis Gardeck returning, along with the addition of running back Chris Rodriguez to the roster from free agency. While fans may remain frustrated with the current approach, there is ample reasoning for it.

Coen was in a joking mood on Tuesday. He was admittedly anxious and impatient as free agents signed with new teams left and right. Yet, there is a plan in place that Coen is on board with, even if he is still is window shopping in a sense.

"Yeah, impatient, let's call it that for me," Coen said. "This offseason, James has been obviously, 'nah dude,' but I'm (like), 'I'm window shopping, pal. I’m starting to window shop. Just give me some feedback here.'"

Jokes aside, Coen is step for step with Gladstone on the approach, knowing that the plan from last year to this year is nowhere in the same realm, allowing him to temper expectations after signing numerous free agents to improve the floor of Jacksonville's roster. Mission accomplished. Though now is the time to maintain foundational support, this time through the NFL Draft.

"It’s like, look, you're going to pay premiums for players, top dollars," Coen said. "And we just weren't really in a place to want to do that with 10 of 11 starters on offense coming back and 11 draft picks. It's just not really how we wanted to operate this offseason. That was clearly communicated to me, which I appreciate."

The Jaguars are still looking, or "hunting" for players, whether it is through trades or free agents following the NFL Draft, which is three weeks from Thursday. Coen noted that much of the work they did also came after last year's draft and is excited to see what Gladstone can do with double-digit selections in the draft this month, along with the collaboration between personnel, staff, and coaching.

Coen explained that the Jaguars have IDPs, or individual development plans, for every player on the roster. It comes with a "three better, three best" where the strengths and improvements needed are identitifed, helping strengthen the roster in an offseason that may see very few significant upgrades across the board.

"Every player has an IDP of how they're going to improve and what that looks like through phase one, two, and three. It's also exciting to get new players in the building, but man, we do have a good nucleus coming back, and let’s lean into that."
