The Jacksonville Jaguars have been working hard to reward their top talents with long-term extensions to maintain stability and continuity across the board. On Friday, the Jaguars continued that process with a key extension of one of their standout players.
2022 No. 1 overall draft selection Travon Walker signed a contract extension with the Jaguars as he was heading into the final season of his rookie deal. The standout edge rusher is receiving a four-year extension worth $110 million with $77 million in total guarantees and $50 million fully guaranteed at signing, averaging $27.5 million per season, according to Walker's agency, Elite Loyalty Sports.

After months of pondering whether he would receive a new contract, Walker is locked in with Jacksonville as another homegrown talent is rewarded for his contributions.
What extending Walker means for the Jaguars

Once, Walker was questioned whether he was worthy of the No. 1 draft choice in 2022. With 27.5 sacks through four years, including at least 10 sacks in back-to-back seasons from 2023 to 2024, the former Georgia Bulldogs star is being rewarded by general manager James Gladstone for his immediate impact on the gridiron.
In 2025, Walker missed time with a broken wrist and a knee injury that limited his production to three sacks for the season and just eight tackles for loss. Despite missing time, he still tallied 42 pressures, including 14 in the final three games of the regular season.

Walker was once a raw player with rare physical and athletic traits for a player who is listed at 6-foot-5, 272 pounds. He has since grown into a game wrecker with outstanding speed off the edge to combine with brute power and impressive flexibility to win in various ways when attacking the quarterback.
Late this past season, defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile began to deploy Walker next to franchise edge rusher Josh Hines-Allen to generate favorable matchups and create mismatches for opposing interior linemen, allowing Jacksonville to be effective with their blitzes and disguises.

Walker's extension showcases a front office that is young and innovative, looking to reward homegrown players with a big payday while securing valuable assets from positions of value. No doubt that allowing former players Travis Etienne and Devin Lloyd allowed Gladstone to spend the money necessary for this extension.
With this extension, the Jaguars will now be able to turn their focus on other stars on the roster, such as wide receiver Parker Washington, safety Antonio Williams, and tight end Brenton Strange.
