Robert Saleh on Jets Offseason Plans: 'We Welcome A Little Bit of Quietness'

After a previous offseason filled with major quarterback changes and 'Hard Knocks' madness, the New York Jets are welcoming a different approach to 2024.

Whether it was the addition of four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers, or the madness that comes with being picked as the team for 'Hard Knocks,' the New York Jets couldn't stay out of the limelight in 2023.

Things are changing drastically in 2024, though.

Despite a strong offseason that has brought solutions to the offensive line, and receiving core, the Jets will enter the training portion of the current offseason with far less of a media frenzy than the previous year. Perhaps that's what happens when you go 7-10 and missed the playoffs for a 13th straight season.

Not everyone on the Jets is upset about the change in media craze. Head coach Robert Saleh, speaking to NFL Network at the annual league meetings in Orlando Florida, made it clear that he preferred the "quietness" of the offseason the organization is currently going through.

"I think (general manager) Joe (Douglas) has done a really nice job adding some really cool pieces to the football team, but, yeah, quiet," Saleh stated. "Last year was a little loud. We welcome a little bit of quietness."

Part of New York's improved offseason was the addition of former All-Pro tackle Tyron Smith, wide receiver Mike Williams, and a collection of further veterans along the line with John Simpson and Morgan Moses joining the group. Although free agency is still just a couple of weeks old, Gang Green's ability to improve the overall roster without giving up major draft capital, or financial resources is a reason for the improved optimism this season.

Getting the return of a future Hall-of-Fame player in Rodgers certainly helps too.

"He's (Rodgers') on a mission," Saleh explained. "He's doing his rehab. He's out in California, I believe. Obviously, he's taking some time for himself. He was ready to go last year, man. So I know he's getting ready. We speak to him often. I don't want to speak for him, but I am going to speak for him and say that he's really excited about attacking this season."

With Rodgers set to return following a torn Achilles injury that essentially sunk the 2023 campaign, the Jets will have heightened expectations leading into the new year, despite the lack of media frenzy that was originally following the team.

That's just the way Saleh prefers it.

"[I'm] excited to attack this season and try to accomplish the things we were supposed to accomplish a year ago," the head coach concluded.
