The New York Jets already agreed to terms on a deal to keep one of their defensive stars in town but it sounds like at least is leaving the franchise.

New York re-signed standout linebacker Jamien Sherwood to a three-year deal on Sunday. He looked like one of the best overall linebackers in football last year so it's not shocking that the Jets wanted to bring him back before he had the opportunity to hit the open market and be pursued by any team.

That's the bright side. On the negative side, star cornerback DJ Reed reportedly is leaving the Jets to join the Detroit Lions on a three-year, $48 million deal, according to FOX Sports NFL Insider Jordan Schultz.

"Breaking: Free agent CB D.J. Reed plans to sign with the Lions on a 3-year, $48M that includes $32M fully guaranteed, multiple sources tell NFL on FOX," Schultz said. "One of the top corners on the market lands a lucrative deal in Detroit."

Reed was one of the top cornerbacks on the open market and is just 28 years old. He had a three-year, $33 million deal with New York and now reportedly will cash in for more. He was a great member of the Jets' organization but it sounds like New York is going to need to add a new corner this offseason.

The Lions reportedly lost cornerback Carlton Davis III early when free agency opened up and now will land Reed to replace him.
