What Aaron Rodgers Trade to Jets Means for Detroit Lions
The Aaron Rodgers era is now officially over in Green Bay.
According to the NFL Network, the veteran quarterback has been traded to the New York Jets for the No. 13 and 42 picks, along with the No. 207 overall selection in this year's draft. Also, a 2024 conditional second-round pick, that can become a first-round pick, was included.
They Jets secured the No. 15 pick and No. 170 pick in this year's draft, along with the future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback.
For the Detroit Lions, the team has not won a NFC North divisional title since Rodgers step foot in the division.
Who can forget the late-game heroics and constant trolling from a Packers fanbase that became all too used to winning the NFC North division.
While the Lions enjoyed success more recently, the team oftentimes found itself on the outside-looking-in when it came to securing a playoff berth.
Rodgers did not often publicly praise the Lions last season, even when the team found ways to force turnovers and put together four solid quarters of football.
“Look, no disrespect, but did they play great? I mean, we had 400 yards of offense on them, moved the ball up and down the field. I threw an interception off a helmet. I threw an interception about five yards short of Dave, "Rodgers told Pat McAfee during one of his weekly interviews. “It wasn’t like I didn’t play a great game. We still made a lot of mental mistakes, but I don’t think they really stopped us. We had three possessions in the first half, and went up and down the field. So, you know, it’s more about us, I think, than them.”
With Rodgers now gone, Detroit has become the prohibitive favorite to win the division.
Speedy wideout Jameson Williams will return after a six-game suspension, and the team should be able to make a playoff push in the second half of the 2023 season.
