Jared Goff: Lions 'Expecting' to Defeat 49ers

Lions are confident heading to San Francisco.

The Detroit Lions are a football team that now has the confidence they can step foot out on the football field and compete with any NFL team.

After defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to win their second consecutive home playoff game, Detroit will now travel out West to face the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

Despite the legendary history of the San Francisco 49ers franchise, the Lions have confidence they can compete against the elite teams in the National Football League.

“Yeah, it’s exciting, it’s exciting. We joked in there after the game. Ironically, the last time a lot of us played in it was against each other. It was me with the Rams against Dan (Campbell) with the Saints. (Alex) Anzalone was there, Aaron Glenn was there," Jared Goff told reporters postgame. "Yeah, so it’s exciting. And not just for me, but for our whole team.

"It’s something that we’ve – it’s not, I don’t want to say this arrogantly, but we expected to win the first game," Goff commented further. "We expected to win this game and now we get to go to a game we expected to be in against a really good team at their place. And we’re going to come into it expecting to win. It’ll be a tough game, but It’ll be fun.”

Similar to last week, the home crowd at Ford Field chanted the 29-year-old's name on numerous occasions.

After being the target of heavy scrutiny his first two years in Detroit, Goff has now become among the most popular players in franchise history.

"It’s awesome. It really is cool for me, and I said it last week, I said something I’ll probably never experience again and kind of experienced it again today," Goff said. "So, yeah, those fans are special, near and dear to my heart and mean a ton to me, the support and not just for me though, but for our whole team. And yeah, experiencing that is cool."
