Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell does not see much difference between residents in the state of Michigan and residents of Texas.

After spending time during his playing career in Detroit, and now seeing first-hand just how passionate and hungry the fanbase is for the team to become a consistent winner, Detroit's third-year head coach has taken on a personal mission to do all that is possible to make the football team a winner.

"The first game out of the gate in 2006, we played Seattle here and this place is like, whoa. I was blown away," said Campbell, via the team's website. "It was a packed out, it was loud, we couldn't hear on the sidelines as the home team. You could feel that this place is just this dormant volcano, just waiting to erupt. It's been simmering for years and years and years and you wanted to be a part of that. I wanted to be a part of that. I wanted to be a part of something that you felt like you were one of the reasons you had success, got over the hump and turned it into a winner."

From the front office to current and former players, Campbell has quickly come to represent what Lions football should be all about.

Calvin Johnson, appearing on ESPN, expressed, “I love Dan, man. I played with Dan. I love Dan so much because, not only because he’s a teammate, but he’s a soldier, man.”

Johnson continued later, "I think the guys on that team this year and towards the end of the season were able to see what kind of man they had as their head coach. And, I think the guys are playing for him now. I mean, it took them a while, a half a season to get in sync last year. But, when they did, you could see that there was more. They were playing for more than themselves, clearly.”
