Jerry Jacobs: 'Real Fans Know I've Been Starting'

In this story:
Detroit Lions defensive back Jerry Jacobs has oftentimes felt counted out.
The talented cornerback has used skepticism and criticisms of his game to carve out a role in Aaron Glenn's defensive scheme.
Not even an ACL tear diminished Jacobs' confidence that he could play at a high level in the NFL.
After Jacobs went undrafted, Glenn expressed praise of the team's scouting department for bringing in a player the coaching staff quickly became excited to work with and develop.
“You’ve got to give credit to our scouting department of bringing a guy like that in,” Glenn stated in 2021. “That was a guy that we looked at together as a player that we wanted. We all know, I don’t care if it’s a first-round pick to a seventh-round pick to a free agent -- you never know what you’re going to get until you get the guy in. We knew that we had something. We didn’t know he was going to be who he is right now, but again, there is a long way for that player to go. So, you’ve got to be excited to have a player like that, that’s playing as well as he is. He’s still young, and he has a lot more to learn. We’re excited about that player.”
After a free-agency period that saw the front office target and sign multiple cornerbacks, many have wondered if Jacobs' days starting are in jeopardy or if his place on the roster is coming to an end.
The 33rd Team released a graphic on social media that explored the potential starters in Detroit's secondary for the 2023 season.
Fans quickly noticed that Jacobs was omitted, and quickly took to social media to let him know.
Jacobs posted on social media, after being made of his omission, "Do y'all know they post that stuff for their page to look good and for more content. All the real fans know I've been starting since I got in. Ya'll think I'm worried about a 'lil blog post. Love y'all though. Have a great day."
