Lions' Week 1 Inactive List, Kelce Out

In this story:
The Detroit Lions are hoping their young and emerging defensive line will contain Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs' offense.
"Those guys are physical, strong," said defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn. "They play exactly the way I want those guys to play, and that’s the one thing that in training camp that we did a really good job of, of just going out there and being physical and being violent and just trying to control the front in totality. And, those guys did a good job of that.”
Led by Aidan Hutchinson, the young unit is expected to bring the pressure against one of the NFL's top signal-callers and work to limit the effectiveness of the Chiefs' rushing attack.
Given Mahomes' elusiveness, it will be imperative for Detroit's defensive line to set the edges, which has been a point of emphasis by Glenn and the coaching staff.
Aidan Hutchinson vs. Chiefs Offensive Line Key Matchup to Watch
“They’re great, I think. I’m looking at a lot of O-lines in the league, they’re up there," Hutchinson said. "They’ve got just a lot of solid dudes, and obviously having a quarterback in Patrick Mahomes, he helps them out a lot, too. Even if they do get beat, he can move around and make some plays. I think they’ve got a good combination there, but one that we’re willing to attack and one we’re gonna get after.”
Just prior to kickoff, it was reported by multiple outlets that tight end Travis Kelce will not be appearing in the season opener, despite his efforts to suit up and play.
Emmanuel Moseley and Isaiah Buggs were previously ruled out for the opener.
Rookie Brodric Martin, who is still considered a raw developmental player, and veteran Romeo Okwara will also not suit up in Week 1 for the Lions.
Here is the updated list of the Lions' Week 1 inactives:
- DL Isaiah Buggs
- CB Steven Gilmore
- DL Brodric Martin
- CB Emmanuel Moseley
- DL Romeo Okwara
