What Positive Ennis Rakestraw Injury News Means For Commanders Game

In this story:
The Detroit Lions avoided bad news on a key player who is expected to be a contributor in the secondary.
According to play-by-play voice Dan Miller, the former second-round pick avoided a significant leg injury.
"Positive news on cb Ennis Rakestraw. After leaving practice yesterday, he has an ankle injury. Not expected to be serious. Status for tomorrow’s game TBD."
The team is planning on playing many starters against the Washington Commanders at Ford Field, but it would be wise for Rakestraw to rest and resume practice next week.
Throughout training camp, Rakestraw has steadily grown, and even had one of his best weeks of camp, after he was unable to complete the preseason contest against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Detroit only has three official practices remaining next week before the end of training camp.
Rakestraw shared with reporters this week that he was starting to feel more and more like himself, given he has not practiced enough or played in his first two NFL seasons. He was unable to play last season, following a shoulder injured suffered early in camp.
What Dan Campbell is seeking in second preseason game
Following a loss to the Bengals last week, the former NFL tight end is seeking growth from young players and if certain players are able to learn from previous mistakes.
"Well, you just need to feel like things are cleaned up, that you're not making the same mistake twice. Some of these, particularly these young guys, these young players, like, okay, what did you learn from the last game? That's really what you're looking for," said Campbell. "Is there growth when the lights are on? In practice, you can see growth. You can see guys getting better.
"Okay, now you were under the lights Thursday night at Cincinnati, and now where's it at? But yeah, that's what you're looking for. You just want to see the growth, man," Campbell commented further. "Are they learning from this? And it's not too big for them. And they can take the coaching to the field when it really matters in game time.”
