Live Updates: Atlanta Falcons at Green Bay Packers

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Packers beat the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night. Here is our live coverage.
Fourth Quarter
Packers 30, Falcons 16 (9:55 remaining)
Mason Crosby tacked on a 48-yard field goal to make it a two-touchdown game. Aaron Jones had runs of 11 and 12 yards on the drive.
Packers 27, Falcons 16 (12:52 remaining)
Todd Gurley broke a couple tackles on a 5-yard touchdown run. A roughing-the-passer penalty on fourth-and-6 was the key play.
Third Quarter
Packers 27, Falcons 9 (5:18 remaining)
On third-and-3, Falcons safety Jamal Carter pulled down Robert Tonyan. Tonyan got up, broke toward the end zone and caught his third touchdown of the night, a 21-yarder. The 51-yard drive was started by a 23-yard completion to running back Aaron Jones. Rodgers is up to 280 passing yards and four touchdowns.
Note: According to Pro Football Reference, Jermichael Finley (vs. Chicago in 2011) and Keith Jackson (vs. Tampa Bay in 1996) are the only Packers tight ends with three touchdown receptions since at least 1950.
Packers 20, Falcons 9 (7:20 remaining)
Green Bay had a chance to put the game away coming out of halftime but punted. The Falcons made it a game when Todd Gurley broke tackle attempts by cornerback Josh Jackson and linebacker Ty Summers for a 5-yard touchdown. Linebacker Krys Barnes almost had an interception on the second play of the drive but the ball went through his hands and was caught by Olamide Zaccheaus for a gain of 16.
Injury updates: For Green Bay, cornerback Chandon Sullivan (concussion) is out and cornerback Kevin King (quad) is questionable. For Atlanta, Julio Jones is out with a hamstring – the same injury that sidelined him last week. From that vantage point, perhaps Packers coach Matt LaFleur was wise to proceed cautiously with Davante Adams.
Halftime
The Packers took a 20-3 lead at halftime. With Rodgers taking (perhaps) every snap from shotgun, he completed 18-of-22 passes for 228 yards and three touchdowns, good for a passer rating of 149.4. It was a dominant performance with Davante Adams inactive and Allen Lazard on injured reserve. Meanwhile, the defense has limited Atlanta’s running game to 29 yards on 13 carries and star receiver Calvin Ridley had zero catches.
Of note, Packers running back Aaron Jones spent the second quarter on the bench. No injury update was provided. Slot defender Chandon Sullivan is out with a concussion.
Second Quarter
Packers 20, Falcons 3 (46 seconds remaining)
Aaron Rodgers threw his second touchdown pass of the night to tight end Robert Tonyan, this one an 8-yarder, to give Green Bay a big lead. The Falcons lived up to their billing as the worst defense in the NFL. On fourth-and-2 from the Falcons’ 28, Packers coach Matt LaFleur kept his offense on the field. The Falcons didn’t bother to cover receiver Malik Taylor, who was wide open for a catch-and-run gain of 21. It was the 4,000th completion of Rodgers’ career. On the next play, Rodgers found Tonyan for the score.
Packers 13, Falcons 3 (2:28 remaining)
Aaron Rodgers fired a 19-yard touchdown pass to tight end Robert Tonyan. It was the second big third-and-long completion on the drive. On third-and-10, offsetting penalties gave the Packers a second chance. Rodgers took advantage by hitting Marquez Valdes-Scantling for 14 yards. On third-and-14, Tonyan beat linebacker Foyesade Oluokun at the line of scrimmage, made a leaping grab around the 3 and powered through safety Sharrod Neasman at the goal line. Mason Crosby was wide left on the extra point.
Packers 7, Falcons 3 (7:38 remaining)
Elliott Fry booted a 23-yard field goal to cap a monster 20-play, 94-yard drive that consumed 10:36 off the block. The drive started at the Falcons’ 1 and included a pair of third-down conversions – a fourth-and-3 pass to Julio Jones and a fourth-and-2 scramble for 6. But, the Packers got the stop. On first-and-goal at the 5, Darnell Savage and Kevin King missed tackles on running back Todd Gurley but Savage didn’t miss on his second try to produce a loss of 3.
First Quarter
Packers 7, Falcons 0 (3:14 remaining)
The Packers had a chance to put their stamp on this game. But, on fourth-and-goal just inches from the goal line, Jamaal Williams was bottled up in the backfield and eventually stopped by linebacker Deion Jones. Completions of 11 yards to Williams on a screen and 29 yards to Williams on a deep pass got the ball rolling, and Darrius Shepherd converted a third-and-7 with a 19-yard grab. On third-and-goal from the 3, Shepherd caught the ball near the goal line but couldn’t roll himself into the end zone.
Packers 7, Falcons 0 (10:01 remaining)
Aaron Jones was wide open on second-and-goal from the 6 for one of the easiest of Aaron Rodgers’ 374 career touchdown passes. Green Bay’s defense forced a three-and-out to start the game. Robert Tonyan had a 27-yard reception and Jones had runs of 9 and 23 yards to get the ball into scoring position.
Pregame
Mason Crosby made field goals from 54 yards to the north end and 57 yards to the south end. While the wind is whipping inside, the flags atop the goal posts are barely moving. … Based on warmups, the Packers will go with the same as offensive line as last week, with left tackle David Bakhtiari, left guard Elgton Jenkins, center Corey Linsley, right guard Lucas Patrick and right tackle Billy Turner. … Also based on warmups, Krys Barnes, not Ty Summers, will be the every-down linebacker. ... Once again, the team stayed inside the locker room for the national anthem.
Big Battle
Since the start of the 2016 season, when he won MVP, Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan is No. 1 in the NFL with 19,390 passing yards and No. 3 with 126 touchdown passes. Since the start of the 2014 season, Julio Jones leads the NFL with 9,569 receiving yards – almost 1,400 yards more yards than anyone else. For this season, Calvin Ridley leads the NFL with 116.3 receiving yards per game.
Ryan and his receivers vs. the Green Bay defense will be the must-see battle. The Packers were built for matchups like this one. They’ve invested heavily in their pass rush, with the 2019 additions of Za’Darius Smith, Preston Smith and Rashan Gary, and in their secondary, with early draft picks used on cornerbacks Jaire Alexander and Kevin King and the 2019 additions of safeties Adrian Amos and Darnell Savage.
Inactives
Davante Adams and Kenny Clark are inactive for the Packers. Without Adams, Green Bay is down to a five-point favorite at some sportsbooks. It was seven points for most of the week.
