Seattle Seahawks wideout Tyler Lockett spoke to the media on Wednesday for the first time since the end of last season, and he had a message for everyone listening - namely the media.

It wasn't just a message, it was a request. “Please,” Lockett pleaded, “don’t put no more trade requests out there for me. Because I see y’all’s articles about me getting traded. Like — no."

The 31-year-old team captain then walked away in what was nothing short of a mic-drop moment.

Lockett renegotiated his contract this month to give him a better opportunity to stay with the Seahawks. “For me, Seattle is home,” he said. He knocked $4 million off his salary over the next two seasons combined, exchanging it for incentive bonus money.

That allows the team to spread it out to lower his cap hit for 2024 and 2025. In exchange, Lockett will make $13 in guaranteed salary this upcoming season. Before reworking his deal, he had no guaranteed money this year.

Lockett will enter his 10th season in the league this year - all with the Seahawks, and he's now the longest-tenured player on the team.

The Seahawks missed the playoffs last season - but just barely - for just the third time in the past 12 seasons. Seattle could do no better than the eighth seed in a seven-seed postseason tournament.

And Lockett wants to change that for 2024, and renegotiating his contract will help general manager John Schneider build more talent around him.
