ESPN Suggests Steelers Sign Odell Beckham Jr.

The Pittsburgh Steelers could see instant results by signing OBJ.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers and Odell Beckham Jr.? It wasn't a name on many fan's watchlist, but to one ESPN analyst, it should be.

During ESPN's Get Up, NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky suggested that the Steelers should go out and sign OBJ. Why? To add some splash to their offense, and give second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett a third star to throw to.

"I look at the AFC, I say you gotta add firepower, or people to slow down firepower because of the Chiefs. This automatically does that for Pittsburgh," Orlovsky said. "One, organizational structure, and the head coach knows what he’s doing. There’s a standard, a culture, an everyday expectation he’s gonna walk right into. Two, cheap quarterback with Kenny Pickett right now, you’re trying to build around that because he is cheap and you’re trying to get him to play as well as possible.

"And just imagine this offense if you’re a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Najee Harris at tailback, who is still an awesome player. Then you got George Pickens who’s a burgeoning star at that position. Diontae Johnson and Pat Freiermuth at tight end. And you add Odell? Now we’re talking about an offense that’s got weapons and actual firepower to go chase down a Cincinnati Bengals, could go chase down a Kansas City Chiefs football team. So there’s a lot of teams that we could say Odell’s gonna be a good addition."

Right now, reports claim Beckham Jr. is looking for $15-20 million per season on his deal. He didn't agree with that claim, tweeting out that he has not asked for that much money, which begs the question - what is his actual value marked at?

The Steelers have dipped their toes into splash signings this offseason, inking Isaac Seumalo and Patrick Peterson to deals, on top of two inside linebackers and a backup lineman. They've reportedly worked with Orlando Brow Jr. and Leighton Vander Esch, and if OBJ is a real option, it isn't impossible to think they'd at least talk to him.

Now, the Steelers did not attend Beckham Jr.'s workout in Arizona, but that doesn't mean they don't have tape of it. Add eight years of games to watch, and Pittsburgh has plenty of film on the Pro Bowler.

"If you’re the Pittsburgh Steelers, I’m sitting there going, ‘Man, if we add this guy and he’s capable of playing the way he did on that Super Bowl run, our offense becomes very much so challenging to the Cincinnati Bengals when it comes to firepower,'” Orlovsky said.
