Titans LG Peter Skoronski Gets Highest Grade For Rookies on Offense, Per Pro Football Focus

Peter Skoronski, the Tennessee Titans' first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, had a great debut on Sunday in New Orleans. The converted left guard earned the highest grade of any rookie offensive player in Week 1, according to the experts at Pro Football Focus.

In this story:

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans knew they had to fix their offensive line during the offseason, and the most high-profile change was using on a first-round pick — the 10th overall — on Northwestern's Peter Skoronski.

The 6-foot-4, 313-pound lineman played left tackle in college, but he was moved to left guard by the Titans. He was very good in his first pro game on Sunday in New Orleans, earning an 81.3 grade from Pro Football Focus.

That's the highest grade doled out to ANY rookie offensive player, even the skill position guys.

Skoronski's grade from fifth-overall among rookies, surpassed only by Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter (92.1), Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Keeanu Benton (86.1), Houston Texans linebacker Henry To'oto'o (84.3) and Texans edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. (83.1).

Here's what Pro Football Focus said about Skoronski:

  • The tackle-turned-guard out of Northwestern produced quality snaps as a run-blocker and a pass-blocker against the Saints. On the ground, Skoronski earned a positive grade once every four snaps, compared to just a 5% negatively graded run-block percentage. On 40 pass-protection snaps, he allowed just one pressure — albeit a sack — to Carl Granderson.

PFF ranked the Titans' offensive line at No. 21 among 32 teams heading to Week 2 action, which is something of a positive because they were considered the worst offensive line prior to the season starting. So they definitely got some props for a job (mostly) well done against the Saints in the 16-15 loss.

Here's what they had to say about the Titans:

"The Titans replaced four of their five linemen from last season, and even Aaron Brewer — the one incumbent player —  changed positions and moved to center. Many expected this unit to be the worst in the NFL, but they stood their ground in pass protection and three of their five linemen earned run-blocking grades over 70.0 against the Saints. Their best player was Peter Skoronski. Tennessee’s first-round rookie hit the ground running. He was the team’s highest-graded offensive lineman in his NFL debut, and his 80.1 run-blocking grade was the highest among rookie linemen.''

Skoronski's grade was actually sixth overall among all guards in the league, which is saying something for someone making his NFL debut. Dallas great Zach Martin was first. Skoronski's teammate at right guard, Daniel Brunskill, graded out high as well. He finished ninth overall with a 75.7 grade. PFF evaluated 65 guards in Week 1.

Center Aaron Brewer (62.7) was 16th out of 32 players at his position. Right tackle Chris Hubbard ranked 21st among 65 tackles, and left tackle Andre Dillard graded out at No. 43.
