The Tennessee Titans saw receiver Treylon Burks go down with a scary injury on Wednesday, but they ended up getting some positive news. The Titans will be hoping for the same with rookie quarterback Will Levis who left practice early on Thursday.

Levis' status for Saturday's preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings, who the Titans held joint practices with on Wednesday and Thursday, will now be uncertain. Titans coach Mike Vrabel gave an update on Levis at the end of Thursday's session via team writer Jim Wyatt.

If Levis is unable to play on Saturday it would be a huge blow for not only Levis himself, but for the team as they try to determine who will be their backup quarterback in 2023. Going beyond that, the Titans are also hoping one of these young passers, Levis or Malik Willis, will be their quarterback of the future.

The plan is for Ryan Tannehill to remain the starter all year and if that happens, this preseason is potentially the last time to have this battle in games before having to choose one of the young guns to be the starter next season.

Outside of the competition and long-term implications are the short-term goals of Levis. Levis is a rookie after all and needs as many reps as possible to grow his own game. Any missed snaps in live action will be a detriment to a rookie.

At this time, we don't know the nature of the injury or if Levis will miss Saturday's game, but even the idea of that happening is disappointing and takes some shine off the preseason excitement. The Titans are off on Friday. Maybe that gives Levis enough time to be ready.

If he isn't, it will give Willis full reign to play the entire game. This gives Willis a chance to gain some rhythm and potentially set himself apart in a big way in this quarterback battle. With only one preseason game remaining after Saturday, the clock is ticking.
