Titans Draft Uncertainty: Expect the Unexpected

In this story:
NASHVILLE — Buckle up, Titans fans. The NFL draft is almost here and the only thing we know for certain when it comes to the Titans is we don’t know anything at all. The draft can be unpredictable anyways, but when you add in all the changes the Titans have made so far this offseason it makes predicting the draft as perilous as ever. Throw out what you think you know and prepare yourself for surprises.
The Titans hired a new general manager in Ran Carthon months ago so that in nature will bring change. If the Titans wanted to draft and roster similar players as they have the last few years, they wouldn’t have fired Jon Robinson. Carthon was brought in to find Mike Vrabel the pieces he wants. Odds are those are slightly different than what was brought in before.
After saying that, the point I am trying to make is this: the Titans could draft anything. Be prepared for it. Everyone following the team sees similar needs. Needs like wide receiver and offensive line and quarterback are discussed the most., but the Titans may not see the roster the same. A lot of folks look at needs, but if you are Ran Carthon, you may be looking at this roster as something that needs everything. The talent level of the roster is low. The goal could be to add the most talented players possible without the typical caveat of needs.
Would fans be upset and confused if the Titans went defense early? Probably, but maybe they shouldn’t be. Maybe, just maybe, Carthon sees this roster as one that isn’t a few hole-plugs away from being ready to make another postseason run. If that is the case, it wouldn’t be that crazy to not see a receiver taken until day three, for example. Everyone focuses so much on what the team will be in 2023 that we forgot there is a chance Carthon is more focused on the seasons after this year.
Also, one big thing to brace for is a big veteran trade. The Titans have been whispered about in the trade market this offseason. Names like Ryan Tannehill, Derrick Henry and Kevin Byard have come up nationally as possible trade options. Would the Titans truly trade one of their roster cornerstones? We should not rule it out.
Carthon was brought in to fix this roster. To turn the dials to a station Vrabel wants to listen to. The process to do that may be a bumpier ride than some are expecting. The Titans may make draft picks that catch folks off guard and they just may trade your favorite player. All we can expect for certain is the unexpected.
