Everything Robert Saleh Said After the Titans' Preseason Win vs. Seahawks

Another preseason game has come and gone for the Tennessee Titans, and with it are the varied reactions of a fanbase hungry for an improved season. Really, anything more than three wins will do for now - Tennessee already has two in the preseason, which is a good sign?

Expectations for the regular season aside, Robert Saleh addressed the media this morning to temper any worries that may have been spawned by Tennessee's intermittent struggles in their victory. With roster cuts looming large, too, discussion is lively around Titans football this week.

Here's everything of note that Coach Saleh said in the wake of week two.

Titans Will be Better Every Week

Saleh admitted that the Titans can expect "peaks and valleys" all season, as he's taking over one of the worst situations in the league. To boot, it's only Saleh's second stint as a head coach. The preseason thus far is going as expected, according to him.

Still, Saleh guaranteed that his team will be better every week. That's a bold sentiment, but that's why he was hired over someone like Matt Nagy. Titans fans are tired of softball quotes and philosophies, and today is the latest example of Saleh raging against that.

Carnell Tate is Doing Good Despite Struggles

Through two preseason games so far, Carnell Tate has zero catches on five targets. The opportunities are scarce already in his limited minutes, although Tennessee's top-pick has yet to make good on even a single one.

Saleh, however, isn't worried about Tate's skills not showing in the preseason.

Saleh said on Monday that Tate is doing a "good job" day-to-day, adding that he's proven his ability in practice regardless of how the games themselves have panned out. Saleh also noted after the game last night that "When it's time to scheme, we'll get guys the rock."

You have to believe that applies to Tate in a major way.

Some Roster Spots are Still Open

Aug. 30 is when NFL teams are required to make their final cuts prior to the regular season. With just one more preseason game remaining on the schedule, the window is smaller than ever for Titans players to make their case for a permanent spot.

To raise the stakes even higher, according to Saleh, there are multiple jobs still wide open.

For guys like Xavier Restrepo and Julius Chesnut who are bordering on the edges of their respective units, the matchup with the Chicago Bears on Aug. 29 is monumental. Taking place just one day before cuts, too, we could see a lot of these positions make or break in-game.

There are certainly preseason trends to keep an eye on, but Saleh made it clear that much remains up in the air.

Fernando Carmona is Progressing Well

Lastly, Saleh provided a mild update on Tennessee's ongoing position battle at right guard. Rookie Fernando Carmona has been ticking upward for the starting gig, and last night looked like another step toward securing that.

Saleh called Carmona's showing "decent," saying also that he likes the way the RG is progressing right now. Veteran Cordell Volson may have an outside shot at the gig, but Saleh continually finding ways to pat Carmona on the back suggests that his odds are falling by the game.
