Aaron Rodgers Trade Dominos: Packers Now Bigger Threat to Titans in 2023 NFL Draft

The Tennessee Titans could be looking for an offensive lineman or wide receiver with their first pick in the 2023 NFL. After the Green Bay Packers officially traded Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets, it could be more difficult for the Titans to get a player of their choosing.

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans have seen all kinds of trade rumors involving their players pop up throughout the offseason, but they certainly weren’t the only team. The Aaron Rodgers-New York Jets trade talks hovered over both the Packers and Jets for months at this point, but we finally got closure on that rumor as the trade between the Jets and Packers was finally completed on Monday. This may seem like general news that Titans fans don’t need to be worried about, but looking at the compensation and what the Packers could be after should make Titans fans a little concerned.

The Packers will swap picks with the Jets as part of the deal, going from the selection 15 in the draft to selection 13. It is only a jump up of two spots for the Packers, but they also acquired a second-round pick in this year’s draft as well. To put it simply, the Packers have more draft ammo now and are even closer to where the Titans pick. The Packers are a team that is interested in similar positions as the Titans, wide receiver and offensive line. The Packers are now in a spot to jump the Titans if they think the Titans could be taking one of the players they want at either of those two positions.

Think about players like Paris Johnson Jr. or Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Players who would be ideal fits for the Titans could now be in danger of being stolen right from under the Titans’ nose. Of course, the Packers were always in range of making a move like that, but with an extra second rounder and being two spots closer, it is more possible than ever. The Titans aren’t in a position, roster-wise or pick-wise, to trade up for a receiver or tackle themselves, so now the anxiety grows and the uncertainty increases as to what the board will look like before pick 11.

So, even though the Titans are not directly involved in the Rodgers trade, it certainly could have a major impact on them and how the draft plays out. It also ends any meritless speculation that Rodgers could somehow end up a Titan. That could be considered good news to some. Either way, the Packers just became a much bigger threat to poach one of the Titans’ best options on Thursday night at two positions that are major needs.
