First Wave Of Free Agency Slow Down Now Undeway

Now that the initial fervor of free agency has set in, and the pace of new signings is slowing, it's time for the Tennessee Titans, and the other team too, to evaluate where they are, what they have left to do, and how much money it's going to take.

In this story:

NASHVILLE - Now that the initial wave of free agency signings has begun to slow, it's time for teams to reaccess the plans they hoped to accomplish.

The reassessment includes how many of their top targets they got, which players remain, and how much cap space is available to sign more players.

On the other side, players, such as Denzel Perryman, who we spoke of as a person of interest by the Titans in another article on Thursday, will now begin to visit teams with interest in them, and vice versa.

There is no rush for established players like Ezekiel Elliott, who Dallas just released on Wednesday, to find a new home, as teams needing a running back will be willing to wait on the top free agent at that position to make his choice.

Of course, a new signing can still arise at any moment, but the won't likely be coming with the same frequency across the league in the coming days.

This has been that first wave.

The second wave will come shortly and lead us into April, and the NFL Draft will then be followed by the third wave, where teams fill their rosters with remaining free agents at positions they have yet to fill in the first two waves and the draft.

The Titans need many more positions filled, and with the release of Bud Dupree on Thursday, they now have another $9.4 million to spend, which, if they follow the current pattern of free-agent acquisitions, would amount to three more short-term, role-player additions.

Of course, the contract of Jeffrey Simmons still sits on the shelf, awaiting resolution.

Getting that deal done might be the best signing this franchise can make for the coming season, especially if rumors of a potential trade or release of Kevin Byard become reality.
