Sharks’ David Quinn Fined $25,000 for Wild Outburst at Referees

Sharks coach David Quinn has been fined $25,000 by the NHL for conduct demeaning to officials, according to a statement from the league. 

Quinn was ejected from Saturday’s game against the Capitals after losing his cool in front of the referees. 

San Jose’s coach launched into a wild NSFW tirade against referee Gord Dwyer following a hooking call against Sharks winger Kevin Labanc in the third period, resulting in an early end to his night on the bench. Dwyer issued Quinn a game misconduct for abuse of an official.

And now, in addition to the ejection, Quinn will now be forced to literally pay for his actions, getting hit with a $25,000 fine on Wednesday. 

The money from the fine will go toward the NHL Foundation, per the league. 

The Sharks were trailing 4–2 at the time of his ejection, and the hooking call was evidently the final straw in what was a brutal stretch for San Jose, who had jumped out to an early 2–0 lead against Washington before squandering their lead by allowing four consecutive goals. In the end, the Sharks lost 8–3.

San Jose has lost six of its last seven games, sitting dead last in the Pacific Division with a 19-34-12 record and a goal differential of -59. In what’s been a frustrating season for the Sharks, Quinn couldn't level his emotions, resulting in his ejection and now the hefty fine from the league.
