It’s been a nightmare of a season for the San Jose Sharks. After starting the year with 10 straight losses, San Jose finally got in the win column with back-to-back victories last week. But the short winning streak wasn’t the start of a turnaround. The Sharks got blown out 5–0 against the Golden Knights on Friday and lost again on Sunday against the Ducks.

So it’s clear that things aren’t going the Sharks’ way this season, but at one point in Sunday’s loss, things really weren’t going their way. Early in the third period, with San Jose still within striking distance at 3–1, Ducks defenseman Radko Gudas tried an innocuous slap shot from near the blue line. San Jose’s Mike Hoffman blocked the shot with his stick, sending the puck fluttering high in the air. Sharks goalie Mackenzie Blackwood lost track of it and it sailed over his shoulders into the net.

The funniest part, though, was the look Blackwood shared with defenseman Marc-Édouard Vlasic after the goal. The simultaneous shrug says it all.

It’s been that kind of season for the Sharks. They’ll have plenty more losses before all is said and done, but they probably won’t allow a more ridiculously unlucky goal.
