2020 U.S. Open: Venus Williams defeated in First Round by Karolina Muchova

Karolina Muchova defeated Venus Williams at the 2020 U.S. Open on Tuesday.
The number 20 Seed Muchova gave former World No. 1 Venus Williams her first-ever opening-round loss in 22 appearances, beating her in straight sets.
The 24-year-old said, “I just tried to stay focused and just hold my serve - Just tried from the start to be more relaxed. I’m starting to gain my confidence again and feel my shots."
Williams was hoping to become only the third woman in her 40s to prevail in a U.S. Open singles match, but instead, it marked the second time that Williams failed to reach the second round.
Venus' defeat comes as her sister, Serena Williams, also made history on Tuesday. The younger Williams sister broke a U.S. Open record for most career wins in the tournament's history, male or female, after defeating Kristie Ahn in straight sets.
