Since the coronavirus pandemic shut down the Las Vegas strip for the first time since President Kennedy’s assassination, casinos have taken drastic measures to ensure the spread of the coronavirus does not spike in Sin City. Some casinos installed hand washing stations in the middle of the casino floor while others shut down their poker rooms and limits the amount of players at table games. The Wynn casino and resort is the first to reopen their buffet restaurant but modified the traditional approach. Instead of allowing patrons to walk the buffet line, the Wynn is having servers bring food directly to patrons’ tables.

Sports Illustrated’s gambling analyst and Las Vegas local, Frank Taddeo highlights more details in the attached video.

Bill Enright: Las Vegas casinos are taking drastic measures to protect their patrons from the coronavirus. But the Wynn Casino is reopening their buffet. Something that I know makes our gambling analyst and local Vegas resident Frank Taddeo very happy. I knew when this story came through, Frank, you were going to have something on that buffet at the Wynn, which is always excellent. Well, from what I understand, due to your reporting, they're kind of changing the way the buffets are typically serving food.

Frank Taddeo: Yeah, Bill, I mean, obviously, to hear the news that as of today, the buffet is back at the Wynn and obviously all gamblers and tourists all believed that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, buffets were gonna be a thing of the past. But we've now learned from the Wynn that that's completely not a thing of the past because it's coming back, but it's coming back, Bill, with a reimagined concept. This marks the first casino to reopen its buffet style restaurant, treating guests to endless servings of nearly 90 dishes. But the biggest change is now that customers are going to have the food served to them at their table, as opposed to the previous style of self serve, where guests would just obviously take all the food that they were looking for themselves off the buffet counter. As many guests have come to expect, though, Bill, the gourmet dishes often at the Wynn that feature a wide variety of high end choices, ranging from lamb chops to steak and lobster, the crab legs and sushi. All of that is back. But one thing that tourists are all going to have to be keenly aware of as well is that reservations now, Bill, they're going to be required. You can't just walk up and be able to walk in and be able to come into the buffet. So you can actually do that online as well. The new Vegas for the new reality continues to roll out imaginative ways to recreate itself. And this is another attempt to bring guests back to Sin City with many of the amenities that we all love here in a social distance world. On another note, Bill, we also learned today that Circa Resort and Casino will be opening its new downtown Las Vegas location way ahead of schedule on October 28. The 1.25 million square foot casino resort will be opening its doors prior to the previously planned date of sometime that was planned in the end of December 2020. Bill, once again, it's great to hear some positive new items for a struggling Vegas economy that needs a boost in any way possible.
