Auburn QB Nick Marshall pulled from planned SEC media day appearance

Two days after quarterback Nick Marshallwas cited for marijuana possession, Auburn University announced he will not make an appearance at the SEC's media days this week.

The Tigers announced Sunday that tight end C.J. Uzomah will take Marshall's place, according to the Columbus (Ga.) Ledger-Enquirer. Head coach Gus Malzahn is expected to address the situation at the conference's media days on Monday.

Marshall was given two citations last week after he was pulled over for illegally tinted windows. The officer on scene reportedly noted the scent of marijuana and searched the car, upon which point he discovered less than an ounce of marijuana. Marshall was not arrested, but he smelled marijuana and searched the car, where he found less than an ounce of pot. Marshall was not arrested, but he was cited for both incidents, fined $1,000 for the marijuana violation, and $100 for the illegally tinted windows.

In his first year as Auburn's starting quarterback, Marshall led the Tigers all the way to the BCS National Championship game, where the team lost to Florida State. Marshall threw for 1,976 yards with a 59.4 completion percentage and 14 TDs. He also ran for 1,068 yards and 12 touchdowns. He is considered one of the best returning quarterbacks in the country, as well as a Heisman Trophy candidate.
