Former, Current NFL Players Rip Brady Quinn Over C.J. Stroud Claim

Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey and former NFL safety and ESPN analyst Ryan Clark ripped Fox Sports analyst Brady Quinn for a claim made about quarterback prospect C.J. Stroud.

Stroud, who had a decorated career with Ohio State as one of the top quarterbacks in the college game, is expected to be one of the first signal-callers off the board in the next week’s NFL draft. Despite throwing 85 touchdowns to just 12 interceptions in two seasons at Ohio State, Quinn claimed that there are still concerns among league scouts about the quarterback for a peculiar reason.

“There’s some other stuff about interviews,” Quinn told Will Brinson and Katie Mox when listing reasons why scouts were concerned about Stroud. “For example, the Manning Passing Academy … I’ve been told he committed to it the night before and then didn’t show up. That’s football royalty, and when you do that it’s going to set off some alarms for people like, ‘Hey man, that’s not how you conduct yourself, especially around the Manning family or just in general for you to be a franchise quarterback.’”

Quinn went on to say that he still views Stroud as the second-best quarterback in the draft behind Alabama’s Bryce Young, but that didn’t stop Ramsey and Clark from criticizing Quinn.

Ramsey jumped in quickly to defend Stroud after seeing the clip on Twitter.

“Fake story! Tryna beak (sic) a kid down before the draft is lame, especially for not going to a camp that I’m sure he wasn’t getting paid for & instead working with his teammates! Plus [Brady Quinn], you was a bust, shut up! You shoulda went to a passing academy or 2! God bless tho,” Ramsey tweeted.

Clark also came to Stroud’s defense, even saying that the quarterback never committed to the camp.

“C.J. Stroud never committed to attend the Manning camp. He chose to work with his teammates at [Ohio State] instead before his final season. He wasn’t paid to go, & furthermore [Brady Quinn] what does acquiescing to the Manning family have to do with leading an organization?” Clark tweeted.

Only time will tell whether or not Stroud will slide in the draft as some have predicted, but it’s clear that the reasons for a potential slide may end up having nothing to do with football.
