Stephen Curry on Professional Golf Career: ‘I Think I Could Get There’
Warriors star Stephen Curry captured the American Century Championship title last weekend, a celebrity golf tournament that annually features a very competitive field.
After canning a hole-in-one over the weekend that led to a viral video of his celebration, golf fans began debating whether or not Curry could become a professional golfer if he dedicated all of his time to it.
Curry spoke with Sports Illustrated‘s Robin Lundberg ahead of the release of his documentary, Stephen Curry: Underrated, which was released Friday exclusively on Apple TV. Curry didn’t dismiss the idea that he could become a pro golfer, but he relayed plenty of respect for the golfers in the professional game.
“It’s something that I would be confident I could work toward, because that’s the competitor in me,” Curry said. “But I say that with a caveat of complete and utter respect for the professional golfers out there that dedicate their lives to it. Because I do understand how hard it would be. Both can be true. I think I could get there, but I also know it would be a lot harder than my success in basketball.”
Curry’s success on the hardwood has made him one of the best basketball players of all time, and he’s not done yet. Curry is the league’s all-time leader in three-point field goals and has captured four championships with the Warriors.
The 35-year-old NBA great will be able to play plenty of golf after his NBA career is complete, but with the way he’s still playing, there’s still plenty of chapters left to write in that book.
