The Los Angeles Dodgers have traded right-hander Dustin May to the Boston Red Sox in the final moments of the trade deadline.

The 27-year-old has a 4.85 ERA this season across 104 innings of work. He has tossed 97 strikeouts to 16 walks on the year.

May has been with the Dodgers since he was drafted by LA in the third round of the 2016 draft.

After making his debut in 2019, May quickly established himself as a pitcher with elite stuff and movement on his pitches. During the 2020 season, May threw a 2.57 ERA across 56 innings of work, resulting in a fifth-place finish in Rookie of the Year voting.

May made seven appearances during the 2020 postseason, including a pair of World Series appearances in Games 2 and 5.

May continued his production while seeing more time in the Show, culminating with a 2023 campaign that featured a 2.63 ERA, before he was shut down due to a torn flexor tendon in his right arm. To make matters worse, May was weeks away from starting a rehab assignment until a piece of lettuce caused him to tear his esophagus and require emergency surgery, further sidelining him.

Simply getting back onto the mound in 2025 showed how much May has battled through, but the right-hander will look to continue working to lower his ERA and start a new chapter of his baseball career.

As for the return, the Dodgers are acquiring outfield prospect James Tibbs III. Tibbs made his way to Boston by way of the San Francisco Giants during the Rafael Devers trade.

Tibbs is hitting .232 across 87 appearances in both High-A and Double-A this season. He has added 13 home runs and 39 RBIs through the farm system this year.
