In this story:

The Cleveland Guardians were one of MLB's biggest surprises in 2022. They were a young team full of players that were unknown to those outside of Cleveland. But after a playoff run that took them to ALDS, they're starting to get the praise they deserve from the national media.

MLB Network released their yearly top 100 players heading into the 2023 season prior to Spring Training games getting started this Saturday (Feb. 25). Unsurprisingly, a number of Guardians made their way onto this list. These players are:

  • 76. Shane Bieber
  • 66. Steven Kwan
  • 52. Emmanuel Clase
  • 47. Andres Gimenez
  • 8. Jose Ramirez

I don't think there's any debate that all five of these players deserve to be on this list. They all played a crucial role in helping the Guardians win the American League Central and reach the ALDS.

However, one player who was clearly snubbed is Triston McKenzie

This list shines a light on how Cleveland took the league by storm in 2022. Kwan, Clase, and Gimenez are all ranked as some of MLB's top players, yet they no were to be found on last year's edition of this list.

Bieber was a player who was on this list last season, but his ranking has drastically changed. The former Cy Young winner was rated the 37th best player before the 2022 season. Now he's dropped all the way down to 76.

Yes, he had an incredibly slow start to the season but his post-All-Star break numbers prove that he should be ranked slightly higher on this list. In The second half of the season, he finished with a 2.48 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP.

The lone Guardian to crack the top 10 was Jose Ramirez and there's no way anyone can say he should be lower. The third baseman had an incredible 2022 camping while playing through an injury that required surgery in the offseason.

MLB.com even picked Ramirez as their early favorite to win American League MVP which makes eight even seen slightly low.

Fans can see the Guardians and their top players play in their first Spring Training on Feb 25 at 3:05 EST.
