Marlins 2026 Free Agent Signings Outside of One Player Officially Busts

It is safe to say that the Miami Marlins did not get a good return on their investment in free agents this past offseason. The Marlins signed five free agents and only one still remains with the team and even he has not had a great season.
The only free agent that Miami signed over the offseason that remains with the team is Pete Fairbanks and Fairbanks has had his struggles this season. Fairbanks has appeared in 42 games for the Fish this season and has pitched to an ERA of 5.95 and a WHIP of 1.30 with 18 saves and 4 blown saves.
The free agents that do not remain on the Fish are John King, Chris Paddack, Austin Slater, and Christopher Morel. Those four guys all have been designated for assignment by Miami in the past and no longer remain on the team.
The Fish must not have done their homework on these veterans as all of them have bounced from team to team in the past. Maybe next offseason the Fish will find better free agents.
The Marlins should have avoided signing Paddack in the first place
Paddack has not pitched with the Marlins since the very early part of the season and has also been on the Cincinnati Reds and Texas Rangers this season as well. Paddack was last with the Rangers organization, but is not currently with the major league roster.
Paddack is a guy that can cover innings well, but is also a guy that his stuff gets absolutely shellacked when he starts games. That might be the reason why he is not currently with the Rangers and why he was let go from the Marlins and the Reds as well this season.
Paddack pitched 30.2 innings for the Fish to an ERA of 7.63 and a WHIP of 1.66. Paddack pitched 22.1 innings for the Reds to an ERA of 6.04 and a WHIP of 1.66. And for the Rangers he pitched only four innings to an ERA of 4.50 and a WHIP of 1.75.
The veteran has not found stable success in the league this season and rightfully has bounced from team to team as teams nowadays are looking for guys to cover innings. That is one of the only things that Paddack excels at, but obviously teams had hoped for more out of him than just getting that when he took the mound.
