New York Mets 'Very Frustrated' With Carlos Correa Negotiations

The Mets are reportedly "very frustrated" with Carlos Correa negotiations.

Not what you want to hear.

According to Andy Martino of SNY, the Mets are "very frustrated" with negotiations with Carlos Correa's camp and are considering walking away from the deal.

However, Martino added that the same source still believes a deal will get done. But if not, super agent Scott Boras and Correa could file a grievance for Mets owner Steve Cohen's public comments about the agreement.

"We needed one more thing, and this is it," Cohen told the New York Post. "This really makes a big difference. I feel like our pitching was in good shape. We needed one more hitter. This puts us over the top."

As negotiations between the Mets and Correa have continued into Friday, The New York Post reported that Boras has started talking to one or two other teams.

After his 13-year, $350 million deal with the San Francisco Giants fell through due to the same medical concerns, the Mets and Correa agreed on a 12-year, $315 million on December 21.

But two weeks after his physical took place, the deal has yet to be finalized due to concerns over Correa's right leg, which contains a metal plate from a prior fracture in 2014. Correa has not missed time for the injury ever since.

MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal believes the deal will be "dramatically different" and speculated on The Athletic's baseball podcast about how Correa's deal could be altered (Transcribed by NBC Sports Bay Area).

"The way to do it in a situation like this is to put something in the contract called an 'exclusion clause' and that basically says if a player spends X number of days on the injured list with this specific injury, the specific injury to that part of his leg, then you can void future years or you can lower the guarantee, there are all kinds of ways to do it," Rosenthal said. "Now obviously if you're Correa and Boras you don't want this kind of language because it lowers the value of the contract and creates this uncertainty. Clearly, it doesn't have the same."
